Holy Cra-zay game night!

We're both uber tired today. That might be due in part to gaming last night until 1am. I've said it a hundred times but I seriously love the friends we have in Colorado, they are SO much fun. Geeky game people are their own special brand of awesome. We were at a new friends house with a bunch of mutual friends and it was just fun to have so much gaming and socializing going on, such a change from living under that rock thing we have done previously.

Theres not much that stands out as total blog-worthyness, but details of playing Cards Against Humanity isn't really appropriate for family friendly blog. There was also Catan, Quelf, and Vince played a video game I'm not familure with. Oh yeah, I played pinball since I'm kinda seriously addicted to it!

If I can get a photo of it (many were taken by many people, just not me) I'll post the cake. It was a My Little Pony masacre, since Ernest is a Bronie (bro' who loves ponies). I'd let the pic speak for itself if I had one. Kinda reminds me of the cake we got a few years back for my friend Kevin when we asked the cake people to spell everything wrong, give us a smooshed reject cake, and then we put pretty princesses in it upside down. At the time it went well the party theme of "everything thrown together last minute from mixed dollar store finds" but looking back now I bet the fine cake people at Safeway thought we were high on something (besides life).

New Recipe: Seared Tilapia w/ Pineapple Cucumber Relish

I realized today that I don't blog much, it just seems that "blog-worthy" posts need to be exciting and full of ooooh and aaaahhhs. Then again, anything- and I do mean anything- can be worthy of a facebook status. I decided to turn this around and blog all the meaningless happenings of our happily ever after. Because really, its the little moments not full of ooh and ahh that make our lives what they are.

Tonight I tried a new recipe for dinner. A little back story here: I've only made ONE dinner in our 5+ years of marraige that didn't turn out delicious. Through the magic of my cooking I've even been able to get my husband to eat fish and enjoy it. For this evenings meal I decided that Seared Tilapia with Pineapple Cucumber Relish sounded adventurous. I've been feeling bored with cooking and needed to branch out so the whole month is nothing by new recipes I'm trying. My poor husband, I've turned him into some kind of crazy guinea pig.

RECIPE:
1 cup(s) long-grain white rice
2 tablespoon(s) fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon(s) grated ginger
2 teaspoon(s) honey
2 tablespoon(s) (plus 1 tsp) olive oil
Kosher salt and pepper
2 scallions, thinly sliced
1 jalapeño pepper, (seeded, if desired), finely chopped
1/2 small pineapple, (about 1 lb), peeled, cored and cut into small pieces
1 small English cucumber, cut into small pieces
4 6- ounce(s) tilapia fillets

*Cook the rice according to package directions.
*Meanwhile, in a large bowl, whisk together the lime juice, ginger, honey, 2 Tbsp oil and ¼ tsp each salt and pepper. Toss with the scallions, jalapeño, pineapple and cucumber.
*Heat the remaining tsp oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Season the tilapia with ¼ tsp each salt and pepper and cook until golden brown and cooked through, 1 to 3 minutes per side. Serve the fish with the rice and relish.

The result? Vince said it was odd, like nothing he's ever had before. I agreed. It was good and we both ate it all but agreed it tasted like it needed something. Maybe a side of broccoli? Of course, I could live off fish and broccoli, but thats another story.
So theres my report for the day, a new strange dish. After dinner Vince wrote his birthday thankyous (I could write a book about my thoughts on the importance and lost art of thank you writing), we watched television, and now we're in the office as I type to you and Vince does taxes. Wow, I feel so...married. And did I really just become one of those housewives who blogs food? Ew.

We don't have very many Thanksgiving traditions beyond avoiding family drama, but making the dogs pose for ridiculous pictures is a tried and true tradition at its best. We're thankful for eachother, our pups, our wonderful careers, our house, and our amazing friends!

November 1st = Christmas Planning

In Sarah's family the Christmas planning starts right at the end of Halloween. Sure, we don't skip over Thanksgiving in holiday celebration, but with family scattered across the globe its good to start the planning phase early. Because of this, the Burney side of the family creates Christmas wish lists early, and what better place to have easy access to our wants than on the blog. Plus- if any random blog hoppers see what we want and love us enough they can buy us stuff to. Gimmee Gimmee! 'Tis the season.
Usually our wacky lists give a strange look into the inner workings of our minds, you might learn more about us, and this is also a good place to tell us what YOU want for Christmas in the comments.

October means Murder Mystery Dinner!

One annual event we look forward to each year is Petrie's Murder Mystery Dinner. Sarah has hosted many of these types of parties in the past, so its nice to be in some where she isn't planning (and cheating by reading the revealed murderer early). Here's our costumes this year for Death of a Highwayman:

Sarah is a barwench who is friendly with all the men, and Vince is a highway man who lets his wife (played by Shannon- yay!) do all the fighting and tough stuff for him.

Last year's costumes:

Sarah as Little Red Riding Hood, Vince as Sherlock Holmes, and Benny as Long John Silver.

We sadly didn't remember our camera for the first one. Sarah was an alchoholic 20s flapper and Vince was a loveable traincart hobo.

Second Honeymoon at DISNEYLAND!

I love this man of mine, hes young at heart and spoiled me for our second honeymoon!

While we don't vacation often, when we do the hubs goes ALL OUT! We flew first class to and from California and went all out in between. I don't think there is any desire/want during the trip that he didn't fulfill. We ate at fancy resteraunts, bought fun souveniers, and had the time of our lives in Disneyland! Hubs surprised me with a character breakfast but we also ate at Blue Bayou inside the Pirates of the Carribean ride- seated right next to the water! To see the new World of Color show at California Adventures Vince planned a dinner package where we got the fanciest meal of our lives and after VIP reserved seating. The only thing between us and the actual water of the show was..nothing! We were RIGHT THERE in the first row and we got wet- but luckily had ponchos! AH.MAZ.ING.

We got our photos taken with some of our favorite characters like the Queen of Hearts, Tigger, Eeyore, Baloo, etc..and of course MICKEY! Mickey was the first thing we ran into on our first day. What a way to start a vacation!

We will be at the Happiest Place on Earth in just eleven days- I can't wait. I feel the blogs been a bit neglected since we've been so busy this summer getting every ounce of fun in we can before "the semester of doom" starts- when Sarah is teaching 3rd grade, finishing her teacher work sampling portfolio, and taking grad classes at night!

Memorial Day Weekend

Another blogpost already? Woohoo- aren't you lucky readers? Reader? How many people actually read this thing?

Memorial day weekend was grand because Vincent had Friday-Monday off so we got to have a four-day date-a-thon. Friday morning we went to the early showing of Pirates of the Carribean (#4) in IMAX 3D. I would normally never pay the outrageous price for those tickets but we had two free movie passes from my awesome penny pinching and deal snagging. It was AWESOME and we both highly suggest if you're going to pay for a movie ticket just go ahead and get the uber ticket and see it in IMAX 3D. Usually the large screen and/or 3D gives me a headache but it was really smooth in this movie. And also get some popcorn..that buttery goodness probably took three years off my life but dang it was yummy.

Friday night we headed up to petries to play a new game Vince tried out at CityWideGaming Weekend that is still in early production phase. The game is really good and the designer/creator is looking for startup funds to get it officially going.

Saturday we slept in, played Pirates of the Carribean Lego game on the Wii and had a nice brunch out at Famous Daves. Mmm BBQ! We actually had our goofy rehearsal dinner catered by Famous Daves- it was fun to have something goofy and so informal followed by a fancy shmancy formal wedding and reception the next day. Then we reflected on our 4.5 years of marriage that brings us to the present where we're still that goofy couple hopelessly in love with eachother. We spent another evening at Petries playing a few games but this time headed out early to get back home and just cuddle up reading books and magazines with our pups included. We seriously have the words most cuddely dogs.

Sunday I ditched my cutie husband and went to a craft day at a friends house. In Utah I always wished I had more creative and artsy friends to have a day like this with- but wow here in Colorado these gals are SUPER creative! I was seriously in awe watching them all work on their creations. Then there was me who sat with my mixed up boxes of scrapbook supplies trying to get a few pages together but was SO unorganized from the packing/moving- I haven't seen my art stuff in over 18 months. Welcome back into my life, you wonderful little papers and toys! I promise never to leave you again. I was gone most of the day and came home to a content husband who had been working on Petrie's website and talking to his California friends online.

Monday (oh my goodness this post keeps going!) we had the family BBQ for Memorial Day. Good food, good games (I won trivia persuit with Ben on my team), and the opening of the POOL! Woohoo- Summer is HERE!

I have a gazillion words about how great CityWideGaming was this year. But since we all need to catch up on sleep from 2 days of non-stop fun here's just some pics of your two favorite game hosts.

We ran Munchkin, Catan, UberCatan, Betrayl at House on the Hill, Killer Bunnies, Civilization (well we planned to but UberCatan ran long), and Sarah and Shannon did the last event- The Pajama Party PartGames! PartyGames included Telestrations, Thanks-A-Lot, and Balderdash to name a few! SO FUN.

Belle of the Ball

This past Saturday we went to a charity steampunk ball that raised money for an artist who had fallen very ill. Steampunk is "the history that never was" mixing victorian styles with technology- lots of clocks, gears, etc. Here is a quick pic of part of my costume- the bustle!

I will need to track down someone who snapped a pic of my full outfit at the ball. With so many amazing costumes cameras were going off all night. I did get awesome shots of others but forgot to lend my camera to someone for my own pict

A Very Berryman Easter pt.1

Greatest man in history, had no servants, yet they called him Master. Had no degree, yet they called him Teacher. Had no medicines, yet they called him Healer. He had no army, yet kings feared Him. He won no military battles, yet He conquered the world. He committed no crime, yet they crucified Him..... He was buried in a tomb, yet He lives today.

HAPPY EASTER!!!

Growing up I remember asking our elderly neighbors what the Easter Bunny brought them and the old couple told me that the Easter Bunny (and Santa..) don't visit houses without young children. I thought this was horrible, and I still remember it so clearly- I guess it scarred me for life. Well, I'm proving those old crazy geezer wrong because ALL the holiday spirits/characters/etc come to our house throughout the year. Why should kids have all the fun?

This was my masterpiece I created for Vince for Easter. Shown here in the basement- that big brown blob in the lower left is our beanbag... I know in this photo it looks like exploding carpet since it matches. This project took the largest spool of thick string I could find, over 250 easter eggs (including ones with suction cups on mirrors, glow-in-the dark, hanging from the ceilings, etc), small candies, and a lot of getting tied up and tripping as I created it! It went all over the house and was an amazing mess of Easter Web. (Maybe the Easter Spider came instead of a Bunny..?)

Here's Vince at the start of the "trail". Since there is no way I could do this with him at home I did it while he was at work on Saturday and so his Easter started a night early. He was given the instructions to use the Mickey basket (cute, isn't it?) and follow the string in order, no cheating. Frank and Penny were very willing to help- especially since any Easter Eggs falling off the line meant "floor-candy". Don't worry- they didn't get any and there was no chocolate! We are VERY careful about puppy safety!
I love this picture because, as pointed out to me by a friend, it looks like the eggs are planets against the dark wall and the light is a bright sun! Also, you can see a hint of amusement and frustration on Vince's face as he realizes "what- there's MORE in the basement"!
Next time I want to use a brighter string and more eggs. Of course, for how long this took I don't think there will be a next time. Maybe down the road if we have kids, or neices/nephews, or for any of the kids who have "adopted" us... but not for a few years!

So heres the end shot of Vince and his loot. The candy from the eggs, small toys that were hiding in some of the eggs, goodies wrapped up in the web, and the giant nerf gun that was at the end. Not pictured: A build-your-own-mini-wooden-TARDIS kid and one of those toy snakes that grows in water. I think I did pretty good with a $20 budget. And a whole holiday with no boardgames (Sorry, Petries).

If you're wondering why I am not in a single pic its because 1) Who do you think took the photos and 2) Vince is currently putting together my Easter. He needed extra time since he works and I'm a sneak who would have searched the house for clues. More to come. Stay tuned.

$20 Easter Challenge!

Because we've been spending a lot of money to get the house back together our Easter is being done on a budget. This year our Easter challenge is to make each other's baskets with a limit of $20 each. This sounds like a lot but it really limits someone (cough, Sarah, cough) who likes to go overboard- VERY overboard- with holidays.
You'll just have to stay tuned to see what we both come up with. Vince has expensive "toy taste", but Sarah would be happy with some tacky pink nail polish, fuzzy socks, and a pair of wacky earrings.

Moving and Interior re-decorating

We're moving! Kind of..

Its actually more accurate to say we're moving BACK.

There has been a lot of blood sweat and tears poured into our house. We wanted to upgrade to something bigger and better but we're waiting out the housing market. We feel overly blessed with what we already have- a nice 3 level house that is completelty ours! I'm thankful our finances are strong and we were able to buy a house that met my criteria as newly weds.

My house must-haves:

-open kitchen with bar opening to a room we can entertain in

- a fireplace (for Santa, of course!)

- skylights (this has changed, I ended up hating them in the bedroom- no dark room sleeping in)

- a fenced yard,

-a garage- no carports when you live in a winter wonderland

I'm thankful to never have had to have have a landlord, apartment, or rent- unless you count college dorm life and living in a sorority house. That being said the house is empty currently so I'm going to take my time redoing the interior decorating as we get back in. Here's a preview of the main level bathroom- we use it as a mudroom. I have a weird fascination with "theming" bathrooms. This one, of course, is MICKEY MOUSE! It's amazing what a few nice accents can do. Not pictured is the matching trashcan and wall art.

We were up until 2am or so last night after a hot night of gaming. Did I just say hot gaming? Oh dear I am a geek! Now I'm up at 8am on my favorite sleep in day. Why? The wind outside is blowing like we're in the middle of a tornado. Check out from the picture our current gusts in Colorado! I have a great excuse for my naturally crazy hair today.

We have plans today to go window shopping/price comparing for a new king size bed then some team practice for the Party Game Show this upcoming Saturday. Go TEAM HAMMER!

Photobooth Fun

I think I may be addicted to the "photobooth" feature on Vince's MAC. At one point I was going to do a daily photo them mesh them together and made a cool slideshow/video. But that became a random mess of sometimes having 30 photos a day then not having any for 2 weeks...over the course of 5+ years! It does make for a cool slideshow, but not exactly the excitement of a day-to-day one. Especially when I'm usually making a funny face and acting silly.

That being said here is today's Mac self portrait. We moved the computer so now the lighting makes all the pics a bit muted and fuzzy.. but my hair and makeup look good so enjoy. However, the chubby face and odd expresion need some work. And I have a big nose, lol.

House Full o' Sick People!

Teaching in a new school I am exposed to all kinds of germs, and luckily have the immune system of a superhero to avoid getting a bunch of what has been going around (H1N1, colds, flus, pink eye, strep, etc...) however, a megabug going around I just couldn't fight. Its been everywhere. I'm pretty sure I got it from the student- every class has one- that can't leave his fingers out of his green-boogery nose, coughs without covering his mouth, sneezes in a way that spreads to other states, and the one you just wanna dunk in a hot, soapy shower. Poor kid, he's also my glue eater.

So this is what our week and weekend has looked like:

Laying on the couch (usually in PJs, but he got dressed today) with the dogs snuggled up. The pups enjoy everyone being snuggle-ready, but they are are really antsy because no one has walked them or had the energy to play with them much. We're also going on day #5 of the Dokupon Kingdom marathon. (its a wii game)

Please send some chicken soup!

Jeff Dunham LIVE!

For Christmas one thing I got for Vincent was a set of tickets to see Jeff Dunham live. Sure, I got the tickets in December and we had to wait until March to see the show- but I get priority odering on tickets so I got us in RowC, center!!!

We were very excited to have our tickets:

I gave Vince an Achmed (the dead terrorist) talking bobblehead along with the tickets, and at the show we got the matching Walter talking bobble head. (And a character scarf, and a talking Achmed pen, a talking Walter keychain, and a Achmed hoodie jacket... we had as much fun shopping the merchandise cart as we did at the show!) Say it with me now: "I keel you!"

Bobbley Heads:

The show was great, all new material (well at least new to us- none of the old jokes off the DVDs or Comedy Central specials) and even "Guitar Guy" was there. We saw Achmed (and new- his son!), Walter, Peanut, and Jose Jalapeno on a stick! I'm actually glad they didn't include Bubba Joe or the other less-funny characters like the weird pimp guy and the superhero. Excellent Christmas present and date night!

I know its a bit blurry- this was taken with my cellphone camera at about 3am when I got the text that the district was closed today. Not for snow, the roads are clear! No- this was because of the COLD not being safe for children, or anyone, to be out in! Wish Vince had the day off as well. See our high is -4 and the low is -19.. .but thats not including windchill. Someone please send me some hot cocoa!

There was a lot of flexibility in this one but I went for the Hippie "Peace, Love, and Happiness" thing.

I'm enjoying the new class, school, district, etc WAY better than her last experience! ... if you couldn't tell it seems to be a better fit for my crazy personality!

Its hard to believe this handsome man is such an old dude now! Vince celebrated his 28th Birthday with a Mickey Mouse and Catan themed celebration. Sarah surprised him with the 25th anniversary wooden edition of the Catan board game and matching Catan-inspired cake, and he even got his biggest birthday wish of all: SNOW!

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011 !!!

Thats not a creepy picture, not at all. Hope everyone had a great celebration to ring in the new year. We partied at Petries playing Catan and Disney Cranium and Sarah discovered there is such a thing as Cinnamon Shnapps (she didn't have any, she just made the discovery). We don't have any New Years traditions except one: The New Years Kiss! Same thing every year- Sarah attacks Vince. The picture is the result of such a kiss-attack:

Any New Years resolutions? Vince refuses to make them, Sarah makes funny ones excpet this year she added a real one: no more soda. The hilarious thing is after she declared this a company contacted her to product test sodas.

Christmas. Chpt1- Pajamas and Tricky Box

Christmas Eve in Vince's family has a nice tradition that they open pajamas from the Mom at night before bed. Its fun to go to bed in nice new PJs and it looks great for the morning photos. Katie and CarolAnne got cute satiny pajamas and the boys got flannel pants. Sarah also got flannel pants but along with them got tacky leopard print slippers. Sarah loves tacky! And little did anyone know it would match PERFECTLY with her leopard print Santa hat she insisted on wearing. We're a...special...family if nothing else.

All the siblings wanted Vince to open "trick" present Sarah had prepared because none of us like to wait. Its amazing it lasted until Christmas Eve. We usually open everything on our anniversary because the waiting is so hard- not for our own presents but to give them to others. Vince's Dad didn't really want us to do this on Christmas Eve... but since Sarah's family opens on Christmas Eve and we blend the traditions...it happened.
This present was in a LARGE box. Vince was pretty excited when it first appeared wrapped, who wouldn't- its a natural "from our childhood" instinct to want the big present. He ripped open the wrap, lifted the box flap and... "What?!" before him were gazillions of small individually wrapped presents. His excitement was shooting out his head- this was A LOT of presents people. He opened the first box and found nothing but a note "no present here, sorry try again". Oh it was ON! I had been saving every cereal, poptart, you-name-it-smaller-box for a few months (thank you mom-in-law-lady who let me rummage through recyclables) The notes were funny and either gave bad hints "there is nothing in this box, duh" from fake computer errors (Vince is a tech geek) and some boxes also included "pity candy" and small toys you'd find in a quarter machine. (sticky hands, bouncy balls, tacky rub on tattoo). It was a lot of fun. One box said "you'll know the grand prize when you reach it and heres a BIG hint- its hidden in the color RED" by this time the only boxes left were in one kind of red wrapping or another! Long story longer... he opened all the boxes and didn't find the "grand prize". Confused, he asked me if I forgot something. I re-read the clue to him "hidden by the color RED... it doesn't say its in a BOX" After insisting the gift was inside the big box, not in the house, Vince went through the wrapping scraps he had piled back into the original big box and was re-examining the shreds of paper front and back. He somehow lifted the bottom flap of the box (I think he was taking it apart at this point) and there under the flap was a small red envelope. He's a good sport and enjoyed it as much as I did. The siblings enjoyed egging him on and everyone had many good laughs as it went on. The ending "prize".. two tickets to see comedian/ventriloquist Jeff Dunham live when he comes in March.

Happy (Thanksgiving) UltraFEAST !

If you're thinking that because we are MEGA holiday people that we go nuts over Thanksgiving, well, you're very very wrong. Not that we aren't extremely thankful for all that we are blessed with, but neither of us are really big on Thanksgiving. Our first Thanksgiving together Sarah whipped up all the traditional items and then we just sat and looked at them, then scarfed down the mashed potatoes, stuffing, and pumpkin pie. (Carb-aholics Anonymous is calling!) We tried the traditional route because "thats what you're supposed to do". Then we remembered we're adults now and can do ANYTHING we want together, and often we do just that. So Thanksgiving got a new name: UltraFEAST to separate it from "tradition" and on this day of Ultra Feasting we feast upon the greatest goodies known to man and although this changes a bit from year to year it is always full of carbs and calories. Yum! It also includes a new game each year to play throughout the day. The game tradition was a bit harder this year since we've purchased many (MANY) board games throughout the year (Thanx, Petries!) so we went the videogame route and played the new DonkeyKong for the Wii.

Now, you may be asking yourself: "What about your families"? Well, yeah- what about them? Haha. UltraFEAST tradition has always held that we spend Thanksgiving alone together, without either family. Although we're in Colorado we don't attend the dinner at Grandpa Berrymans. They know we love them, and they still love us- goofy traditions at all.

UltraFeast is about 1) Feasting and 2) really being surrounded by what we are most thankful for: EACH OTHER and that we are TOGETHER. Forever.

BlackFriday is a HUGE holiday for our small family. Do I really need to even mention that? We're the people who camp out in a tent early, win $1,000 gift cards in contests, have a collection of the yearly JCPenny blackfriday snowglobes, etc...

Well heres another BlackFriday must: The Bath and Body Works BlackFriday VIP bag. Usually I just buy somethings for me and then divide up the VIP bag for other gifts to send people. Well, thats the idea and I always end up keeping it all for myself. I lurv Bath and Body works!

They released a "sneak peak" at this years deal:

Thats spend $40 and for just $20 get the VIP bag. Yeah, yeah, do the math thats $60 to spend but think of all you can get. It bugs me that it states a "$115" value.. thats IF you spend full price which no one should ever do with constant sales/coupons. Also this years bag reminds me of a stuffed silver garbage bag. Nonetheless, I'm getting it. I never use the bags (who doesn't have a gazillion totes already?) butI use the products.

GOBBLE GOBBLE (we are experiencing camera difficulties)

I made these lil' guys for my first graders today since it would be my last day teaching them this semester *sniff* and because it's TURKEYWEEK! This reffers to thanksgiving of course, but also all week at school the lessons were turkey themed. So fun!

To make:

everything is "glued" with vanilla icing, but I realized after chocolate would blend in more!

The base is a two-toned store brand "oreo" cookie flipped to the vanilla side

The butt is a two-toned store brand "orero" cookie flipped to the chocolate side

The tummy in an unwrapped mini reeses peanut butter cup

The head is a single whopper ball

The red-dangly turkey neck thing (hows that for a name?) is a red-hot cinnamon candy

The feathers are M&Ms

Variations: I've seen candycorn for feathers or beak, my store didn't have them after Halloween

I didn't bother buying orange frosting gel to do feet or eyes

My friend Kara loves.. and I mean LOVES.. StarWars. I'm not a really big fan myself, but I guess its okay. We went to a local Star Wars day event and I gotta say that those 501 guys are kinda hawt. At least using my imagination that they each look like Harrison Ford under the helmet they are (yes yes, I know he wasn't a stormtrooper).

Here is me wearing Kara's helmet with one of the ...friendlier... 501 guys. You may refer to him as "the wannabe future Mr. Kara"

Things I learned today:

Its better that the helmets are kept on or the illusion is gone

Halloween Post 1 of 4(?)

The Many Halloween Costumes of Sarah

If everyday could be Halloween- Sarah would be the happiest person in the world. Here are a few quick shots of some (yes.."some" there were more!) of her costumes used this October!

This was thrown together quickly for Trick-or-Treating night to give out candy. We call it the "voodoo princess" look... but it was honestly "some of this, some of that" last minute!

This zombie getup (before the blood was added) was actually a joke at first because we picked up a package of Tshirts for a project and didn't realize until we opened them that they were for young boys. Sarah was just goofing around pretending to be the hulk ("hulk smash!") but it ended up being zombie-riffic!

More Zombie fun! This ratted hair and makeup just made Sarah look like she was hungover or something. But only a zombie would eat brains. Mmm.. braaaaiiinnnnssss!

This one was done especially for the Murder Mystery. Sarah was Little Red Riding Hood. Later a mask of a be-headed wolf was added for the terror-factor, and if you could have seen the shoes you would have known this was RED-HOT Riding Hood! :-)

Halloween Hauntings

Halloween is a mega deal for us, its more than a holiday- its a... well...very cool holiday that we overly celebrate. (maybe because we ignore so many other holidays?)

Last year we went to see Wicked the musical in Denver and ate at the melting pot which had a special where your server tells ghost stories and your menu is all spooky (like giant fake spiders on your salad and eyeballs in the cheese fondue). It was great fun, bu

t when we heard they had an over-night haunting tour we were a little sad we weren't a part of it.

SO THIS YEAR:

Hubby just informed me he made the reservations for TOUR OF TERROR at the Melting Pot. We, together with other Halloween and Ghost enthusiasts, enjoy a grand dinner at the Denver Melting Pot (our resteraunt of choice for our fancier dates) and enjoy a tour with real paranormal investigator Kevin Sampron who is President of Spirit Paranormal Investigations. You see, Denver has some great haunting "hot spots" and one of those happens to be the very building that Melting Pot now occupies. It used to be an old city jail way back in the days... you can tell where some of the individual jail cells were and where the new additions to the building start and the old building remains. We took a quick peak into their meeting last year and they all kinds of fun gizmos and gadgets being set up to take paranormal

readings. I don't know what I do and don't believe about it but I've always wanted to be in one of those "exploring the paranormal" shoes they do on TV. And as long as there are gizmos and gadgets (and lots of fondu cheese!) Vince will also be a very happy person.

To further our Halloween fun we will be participating in Petrie's Halloween Lockdown... where we are all locked in overnight for some fun. I don't have many details on that yet but 1) It's Petries and 2) ...wait, do I even need a #2? Hahaha. There's also a mid-October Murder Mystery Party that we're eager to get all costumed up for. We will also be going to Elitch's FrightFest at least once since we still have season tickets. LOVE this time of year!!!

And another off-topic thought for the day. I often wonder how people can stand to NOT be us. Not to be all self-loving anf vain here but really... we're just so much fun.

We Are The Champions....!

On Saturday Benjamin, Vince, James, and I went to our (second home and) favorite local game store/hang out to play in their first annual game show. When we had to originally chose a team name we maybe should have said "Team Berryman". But no. When asked Vince, Ben, and I all said "team...AWESOME" automatically and frighteningly in sync. Perhaps we spend too much time together..? Maybe great minds DO think alike... except Ben was there, so out the window goes THAT theory. Haha.

Knowing that the best way to beat out any competition is to intimidate them off the bat, I decided we needed matching game-day outfits. We found some cheap shirts at Walmart that said "I'm sorry... I can't hear you over the sound of how AWESOME I am". Perfect-o! Also it just so happened that the shirts were bright yellow- which everyone knows in nature is the WATCH OUT color (like a school crossing sign) ... and WATCH OUT other teams cause we're gonna wipe the floor with you.

The board was set up in an almost jeapordy like fashion where you select catergories of play. First up was Taboo- the one game our team has the least amount of experience with. We selected Ben to be our clue-giver because none of us really wanted the pressure of doing it right off the bat. The blue team flew through there cards at an incredible speed, and they didn't loose steam for most of the whole game show! The pink team was also doing really well after a stumble on their first card. Then it was our turn... Ben looked at the first card got a confused look on his face and said "...wow". To which I replied "World of Warcraft" and therefor earned the highest badge in geek-scouts-of-america. After the first round we knew Blue was going to stomp the floor with us and Pink was was going to be one of those quiet but ends victorious teams.

Sadly, in the first round we were in last place. That blue team was serving out no mercy! But maybe, just maybe, it was our plan along to let them get a little comfortable and cocky before we slammed them in points. Um, yeah, that's our story and we're sticking to it. Suddenly- a challenge was announced. We weren't allowed to know what the challenge would be, only that one member of our team needed to be chosen and that teammate would be out for the next round. We sacraficed...I mean volunteered... James. We told him if he screwed up we were disowning him. Pressure was on! Once teammates from each team were chosen the challenge was revealed: they needed to complete a 3-D apple puzzle before the other team's chosen members did. Thank the BoardGame Gods that I wasn't chosen for this one- I can't even put together the simple puzzles in my preschool classroom sometimes. The game continued on without the three puzzle goers, and our team was still very much behind.

I made the mistake of over-bidding how far we could get on an OUTBURST card. The subject was "Nursery Rythme Characters"... how could someone whose life is dedicated to children aged 2-10 not be overly confident in this one? Our team pulled out 5/10 when I had predicted we would get all 10. I forgot "cat and the fiddle" and even "Mother Goose" herself. Does this mean they'll take my degree back from me?

We absolutely LOVE when Autumn finally comes and October 1st strikes. Finally we can be guilt-free about playing Halloween music- which we secretly listen to year round. This year will be a little less exciting seeing as how:

1) Halloween falls on a Sunday. Which we have no problem with, but many religious folk do. Vince grew up in a religious family and Sarah grew up in Utah, sadly.. we're used to this.

2) We're still in-between houses as we stay at the in-laws and have our house getting repaired for selling.

BUT... it doesn't mean we aren't still going to be our haunting selves...

Vince's Mom celebrated her Birthday today.

Usually no one gets up before 11am in the house, except DaMom who gets up at about 6 or 7. Since she was going to make her own Birthday breakfast (a big No-no in our world) we decided to stay up all night and take her out for breakfast, just her and us. (We normally go to bed at 5am with our schedule)

So she chose Ihop and we had a nice (greasy!) breakfast and later the same day I made her a birthday cake. It was spice cake with chocolate frosting by her request, the M&Ms were my idea so I could spell out "M-o-m", or just "Mmmm".

Maybe you've been wondering what we've been up to. Well, heres some photos form the past month.

As we prepare our house for selling, we've been staying with Vince's family. Its been... interesting. This is Vince's Mom... see I warned you... "interesting"! Hahaha.

The pups seem to be doing well. Actually... they are having the time of their lives since there is always someone here to worship the ground they walk on. Ben's dog, Mushu, is now Penny's best friend for life and partner in a nightly "doggie tornado" that zooms through the house in ultimate hyperness. During the day Frank and Penny still cuddle up like a two headed dog:

In general we're doing just peachy... Sarah's been kickin' some serious boo-tay in school and Vince makes money to support all our crazy adventures. Life is good! Do not adjust your computer monitor- the pizza is really THAT big. For a casual/fun Friday night a few of us met up for some serious board gaming. I forgot that when you are with four boys, a serious "food time" break is inevitable. We decided to try a sandwich shop Vince remembered passing by, but it turns out the shop was actually a pizza parlor (that also did have a few basic sandwiches). They advertise a MONSTER size pizza that is 26" across... needless to say the awesomeness that was the idea of a huge pizza won us over.

P.S. Ignore my oh-so-not-cuteness in the photo. I had suffered a long day of house repairs in a non-air conditioned space as we worked more on getting the house ready to sell.

It is almost impossible to get a photo of our two dogs together looking normal (no red eye, blinking, wandering away...) so Sarah was snap-happy when these two were curled up together. Kodak moment, right? Not so much. Although they mostly stood still, after about 100 shots this is the ONLY good one:

But it sure does capture them well and makes ya smile, right? Also, the quality is bad because its a webcam shot of the camera's digital display. Sarah can't find the cord to make the file really live on the computer. But you get the idea.

(I will never forget the time the missionaries had dinner at my In-laws house and they asked me to pick a church song for them to sing. I requested the snowman song. I told them it was my favorite.)

We've been doing pretty well with the packing so far. Sarah packs up during the day, then has Vince move the boxes to wherever they need to be when he gets home. Vince moved these boxes to the top of the 3rd level stairs, and Sarah, seeing the artistic opportunity, turned them into a snowman- scarf and all. Frank decided to pose adorably, as you can see. I think he has a new friend.

We have season passes to the Elitch Gardens themepark in Denver- and already we'd like to say it was a wise purchase. Sarah can't get enough roller coasters, and Vince can't get enough funnel cakes! The season pass also includes unlimited access to the water park which we haven't been to yet, but you can bet we will soon!

Speaking of water, we've been spending a lot of time at the Berryman Private Pool up at Vince's parents house. We discovered that bananaboat spray-on SPF 50 will turn your skin and swimsuit yellow, and that pugs don't float in water like most dogs do.

Our summer reading goal is going really well, but the goal of posting more photos on this blog isn't. Vince is still doing well at work, and Sarah is wrapping up her summer 100% freedom because her classes start next week!

We just got "back" from our Summer Staycation, and boy was it fun! Doing the frugalist get-away while staying in that we could we just spent our 4 days off together enjoying...eachother.

We rented video games to play, did a shopping spree at the bookstore (we had a $50 giftcard), cuddled up in the luvsac for movies, deep cleaned our house's main level, washed the dogs so they were ready for snuggles, snuggled and read mystery books in bed, played board games, ate a huge brunch of Sarah's famous southern Biscuits and Gravy, and had a late Mother's day dinner at Olive Garden with Vince's family. It was great!

Now Vince is back to work and Sarah... is figuring out what people who don't work do all day. Clean. Cook. Ride her Scooter. Organize. Coupon clip. Freebie hunt. Scrapbook. Read. She'll figure it out... in three weeks when its back to school time. :)

To continue the summer fun, but more spread out- we spent some money and got season passes to Elitch Gardens in Denver. ROLLERCOASTERS!!!

Mothers Day and NON-Mothers Day

Happy Mother's Day to all you Mother's out there. We hope your Mother's Day is great!

And now that I've gotten that part taken care of... for those of you who are easily offended, stop reading now. The rest of this post is for those like me, who hate this holiday...

Now..... for all of us who aren't mother's...........
I wish you all a happy day also! For those of us who don't have children, here are some of the things we can appreciate on this day focused solely on highlighting us that are childless (for whatever reason)

* Not waking up all night to crying
* Being able to do whatever we want whenever we want
* Having our husbands to ourselves
* Basically living less-expensive lives
* Not having stretch marks!
* Being able to leave the house with only our purse ... not 10 million other things
* Sleeping in
* Staying out late
* Not having to work around a child's nap schedule
* A heck of a lot less vaccuming
* Not changing dirty diapers
* Watching a movie as loud as we want without fear of waking up any children
* Let's face it, vacations are more fun without kids
* Not having to wonder if our kids are ugly :)
* Not having to wonder if we are good parents

* Never having to find a babysitter

Now I realize that those of you with children could make an equally impressive list of great reasons to have children. However, this post is intended to make some of us feel equal on this holiday. Oh, and thanks to Vince for making this day bearable by not making me go anywhere that the topic of the day could come up. I don't need to justify our childless life to anyone. :)

Roller Bladin' Madness...

If any of my blog post should have photos- it should be this one. But, sad for you there are none.

Vincent and I bought rollerblades last night since we have been talking about trying one new exercise every month to keep things fit and fun. I still had my old pair of rollerblades, but they needed to roll onto that skate park in the sky. I won't give you the amazing penny-pinching details of what an awesome shopper I am, but we pretty much walked away with my blades and both our pad sets being free after Vince's blades. NICE!

So even though it was about 10 o'clock at night we still got all set up to go bladin' around the neighborhood. Yeah, that was the *idea* but the *reality* was that we went a few times around our circle and called it a night. I used to be REALLY good at bladin'- my sister and I once signed up for a class and we were better at tricks and speed than the teacher, haha. Now... not so much. It didn't help that one set of neighbors decided watching us would be the highlight of their night and they couldn't stop laughing and making odd comments. They weren't trying to be mean, but with the help of some late-night alcohol they were way too amused in our actions.

I need to get some photos up of how ridiculous we looked, but it doesn't matter because it was FUN. And we'll be brave enough to leave our circle next weekend.

Spring Snip, Cut, N' Style..

I think every Spring we end up cutting our hair and every time I whine right after that I let them cut it too short. This year I think it is just right. My bangs are fuller than they look in the photo because I pushed them back, but its cute either way. Vince got rid of the "hairy beast" look and now has a cut faux hawk again. LOVE IT! He looks like a grown up Jack-Jack from the incredibles, doesn't he?

Notice the amazing colorful lamp and scrapbooking tower... the Mac is now in my scrapbook nook. :) Also, what is with the weird face I'm making? What is it about camera that makes me always pucker my lips like that? And where am I looking? This picture has 'special' written all over it.

How did we celebrate St. Pats? Well, Sarah went to work decked out in Green!!! The school she works at doesn't allow the celebration of holidays (I know.. that is SO un-Sarahish!) Green Eyeshadow ( so tacky, yet so wonderful), Green earrings, Green necklace, Green shirts, Green toe socks! There would have been more but shamrocks and "kiss me" items would cross the line of holidayish. Dressing in green was just some kind of "coincidence"!The two of us met up for lunch and some "kiss me I'm Irish" celebration! We LOVE holidays!!!

2009 is wrapping up and it has been one interesting year. In January Vince turned 26 and less than a month later Sarah turned 25. I think it finally hit us that we are those old married boring people. Oh well, *WE* think we're fun. the year went by FAST! Vince has a new job, Sarah moved up in her job (then didn't move up again like she she applied for at the end of the year but she's not bitter... grrrr). We added to our vehicle collection twice this year with Sarah's scooter and Vince's Toyota Corolla which matches nicely with Sarah's Toyota Corolla. We're healthy, happy, and still the funniest couple you'll ever meet!

...oh, you wanted to know about the dogs? Frank has gained enough weight to now be on the small end of the healthy pug range. He enjoys sitting on Sarah's lap, curling up on her feet, and following her around. We call him "Velcro-pug!". Penny isn't a puppy anymore but trying telling her that! She has lots of energy and is always ready to pounce on anything that happens to move. She enjoys wrestling with Frank, then curling up with him for naps, and "herding" everyone around by pulling on their pant legs. And yes, she knows how cute she is and has Vince wrapped around her paw completely. Olie learned a few new tricks recently, he first learned how to jump over the dog gate that blocks the basement theater room. We are not amused by this, and he is learning this trick is "naughty". His second trick is a more positive one, he can balance a dog snack on his nose and wait for instructions to shake it off and eat it. This took some tries because Penny thought "if he wont eat it, I will" and often tried to snatch a free treat. Olie still insists that the loveseat is HIS loveseat, and can often be found sleeping in it after he has run laps in the back yard area. Both Olie and Frank enjoy playing "chase" with the Pitbull on the other side of the fence. They will run back and forth the length of the fence all together, and now Frank sometimes does it even when Mr. Pitbull isn't there.

We wish everyone a happy and safe new years! We're hoping to make 2010 the best year yet! But we can't tell you our resolutions, or you'll hold us to them ;-)

Sometimes I find weird photos on our computers that I forgot I about. Most of them can be found on Vince's Mac because it has a "photo booth" program that takes a quick snapshot of you. It is way top fun, and I've taken nearly 3,000 photos of myself on it.

Here is the most recent, take on Halloween before we left for Denver. I think my eyemakeup looks awesome, and no- I don't ever wear eyeshadow on normal days.

Hiding Christmas Gifts...

We have only been married for 3 years (this December) but we already have some strong holiday traditions in place. One tradition we didn't plan on, but it is a tradition nonetheless, is Sarah finding her Christmas presents early. By "finding" we mean "exploring every nook and cranny in the house until every last one of her presents is uncovered". Vince, however, is just as sneaky. This morning Sarah found hidden up high on her art shelves a small little black box from Zales. As thoughts of diamonds and emeralds danced her head she opened the box and found...Its times like these that:
1) you laugh that to hide something from Sarah you simply have to put it up high
2) you know you met your match and..
3) have no doubt you married your ideal match and true soulmate!

Sarah has decided where to finish up her never ending college life. After looking into their programs for about 18 months now, she decided on Colorado Christian University, a private university in Denver, Colorado.

Sarah will be, of course, continuing her study of Early Childhood Education. She will start in Spring 2010 and be completing classes through their Colorado Springs location.

So I was reading through some old posts and I'm really bad at updating. So here it goes in a nutshell:

"Wow I can't believe its November"
(I say this every month... just replace the word November)

Wicked on Halloween was AMAZING... killing 6 hours in Denver between the show and dinner... not as amazing. People in Denver smell of smoke and I know it was Halloween but wow- (thinking of the nicest way to say this) I've seen more cotton in a bottle of asprin.

Work is same old same old. That goes for both of us here.

Our dogs are CRAZY. I don't mean crazy like "oh so cute" or "wow they are hyper" I mean flat out mental issues crazy. Not just the pug either- he's a pug so he has an excuse.

The holidays are coming. Our wish lists are on the right side of the blog. This is by popular demand, and the hopes that random blog viewers will buy me presents. I may not know you, but you can still buy me things, it could be the start of a wonderful friendship.
*giving me things does not mean you will be my friend, but I will take the present and run away happily

Sometimes in life there is no reason to do a blog post. Now is not one of those times. Look, a photo... you remember photos don't you? Once upon a time I put them on this blog. Then I stopped for some unknown reason. Well, now the photos are back. This photo was taken about 3 minutes ago... its of Frank-en-pug wearing his Halloween costume. I don't know where all our time has gone lately. It is half way through October now and I'm ashamed to say we have barely decorated our house for Halloween at all. While this might not seem like such a big deal to some, you have to remember we are the people who usually start at the beginning of September just because we can't wait to spook-i-fy our lives. I blame work, being a responsible adult isn't all it is cracked up to be. We already have a VERY COOL thing/idea/plan for next Halloween, but you will all just have to wait a year to hear about it.

These dancing skeletons remind me of a classic Disney silly symphony cartoon I send to my old friend every Halloween along with the classic "trick or treat for halloween" Donald duck short. Some years it is the most contact we have, but we're still close, just busy like I said above. Thank goodness this weekend we have NO plans except to hang out at the house and do as little as possible all while living in our pajamas.

A new Wii fit?

I love my Wii fit, I know people make fun of them as a lazy person's workout... but hey- I'm lazy I guess. Now they have a NEW WII FIT.. or should I say expansion? It's $20 on amazon right now and you can bet its on my 2009 Xmas wish list.

In other related Wii news, the price is going down $50 sometime in the end of this month. So if you were thinking of getting one and haven't- I highly suggest getting one by the way- now is the time. I'm a little bitter that I got one back when they were more $$$, but I also got mine free in a contest so I guess it doesn't matter for me in the end.

Here's a cute lil' snapshot I captured of our furrballs this morning with my cell phone. It isn't high quality, but the blog hasn't been updated in awhile and it is rare to get these three in a photo together due to the high energy of all three- especially Penny!

Things are going well over here. Vince started his new job last week and Sarah is adjusting to another semester of teaching. We can't believe it is already September!

We have been debating about getting a new (used) car so Sarah can escape the dreaded rides in our cities unreliable stinky buses. We opted for a little powder blue scooter instead, what do you think?

Vince took off on it like he had been riding them his whole life. Sarah, our family daredevil, screamed when she got the thing up to a whopping seven miles an hour. It takes some practice but it is FUN!

Vince even took our neighbor's daughter for a spin around the circle! More photos coming soon.

There are just too many reasons right now to NOT move and stay in our current house/state/jobs. Boohoo, we're both home sick- but we have a lot of good things here.

Why NOT to move right now:
-Have you seen the housing market- NOT THE TIME TO SELL
- I can't take my beautiful house with us back home
- Sarah's job here is amazing with good chances for working up the job ladder
- Sarah's job is also easy to get to via city bus (we only have one car in our family)
- Have you seen the job market? Why give up two jobs here when not one is set in place out there
- Staying now does not make a future move impossible, just delayed
-Our current location is great for our dogs (most places back home do not allow more than 2)
-The money it costs to move can be better used to visit people and vacation
- I saved money switching to Geiko, not really... it just felt like something to type

Packing is incredibly boring. It makes me realize how much junk we have that we don't use. I can't tell you how many times I've thought "What is THIS- why do we have THIS- wait, isn't this broken?" Its funny and stressful all at the same time. Anything that isn't mine is junk and anything that is mine is priceless... and even if I haven't seen it in years and even maybe forgotten I had it or what its original purpose was- I need it.

Sarah just got her grades back for the Spring 2009 semester. In all five classes (16 credit hours) she got perfect As! That's a 4.0 gpa for her, not too shabby! Especially since she was also working fulltime and attempting to play housewife as well. Home, school, work- she was one busy girl!

In other academic news, Vince is going back to school this fall. Because Sarah is making him. :)

My excellent hubby found a great deal on this sewing machine and so I'm going to get it. No more will I be in tangles of thread trying to make my mom's old machine work! For the record, my mom could rarely get her machine to work for her either. (piece a junk...piece of frusterating junk...). And everyone is sick of hearing me say "as soon as I get that blasted machine to play nice I'm gonna make this or fix that..." In reality I am an AWESOME at sewing I just need tools that work. I even made a last-minute white gown for a friend once in a rush. But no, I'm not going to be one of THOSE housewives. You know the type I mean, and the thought makes me shudder in endless fear. I'm not going to be any kind of housewife... I'm a workin' Sarah! Okay, I'll go off on my feminist-I-hate-what-people-expect-of-married-women rant later. For now just look at my beautiful machine. Hooray!

Happy after-Easter 2009! While our Easter wasn't traditional we sure had a lot of fun. We watched a horribly bad alien movie with friends, played in a toy store, ate Mexican food, and went bowling. The real holiday is after Easter when everything is 50% off. Sadly, we didn't get to the stores until very late because of work and school so our Easter season did not include a single jelly bean, cadbury creme egg, or candy eggs. Good for health, bad for taste buds! The highlight was finding fun pre-filled Easter baskets for each of us. Sarah's is Crayola Art themed with paper, crayons, pencils, markers, and chalk. It also was a cute wooden crayola box insstead of a basket she can use in her scrapbook room. Oh yes, it also had a giant stuffed blue crayon! Vincent's baster was toy themed with a shooting darts toy, spinny tops, sticky goo, and candies.

Umm... Happy Mardi Gras! Or ya know, whatever excuse I can use to update this blog. It is long overdo for an update. So how's everyone been? Really? Thats Great! Tell me more. No actually don't- because you'd just be sitting there talking to yourself. We're doing great over here. Things are, as always, crazy busy. This blog is getting kinda boring with the same old updates of: work, sleep, school, feed the dogs, repeat. So I'll throw this in: this Sunday we're going to see Phantom of the Opera in Denver!!! Woohooo! We're making a big fancy date of it- nice hotel overnight, shopping frenzy in the city, dinner at the melting pot, dressing to the 9s, the whole romantic package. Alrght thats all for now. (and BTW thats Vince and Quinn in the photo...taken at Walmart...at midnight... do we know how to live it up or what?)

SARAHS 25th BIRTHDAY!

Some people have a Birthday- Sarah has a Birthday SPECTACULAR where the events just keep going! Because I'm hard to surprise, my best friend and husband planned a surprise party for me at Mr. Biggs (its like the FunDome in SLC) the weekend before my Bday to throw me off. It worked, and I was totally surprised. We had a good time playing on the bumper cars, rollerblading, mini-golfing, and watching the auditions for "So You Think You Can Dance" TV show. Bri said it best by stating "theres a reason the show isn't called "So you CAN dance". Hahaha. After Mr. Biggs I was taken for another surprise!

Check out the photos below. This is Quinn, Sammy, and I at Living Art Tattoo where I got my present from Quinn... no not matching tats (not THIS year anyway!) but matching best friend ear piercings on the top part of our ears. We are officially tough chicks now...right? Right? (yeah..right!)

For the actual day of my 25th birthday I had to work an 8-hour shift then had a 3 1/2 hour night class. Yeah- a long night! Luckily my sweet hubby delivered a HUGE bouquet of flowers he arranged himself to my work. So pretty!!! It was a little weird taking them to class with me after work, but they made the whole place smell like heavenly roses. And when he picked me up we went for a late fancy dinner out. I think I was asleep before we got home for the night, but it was a great Bday.

The weekend after my Birthday the festivities continued with a night out of Marathon Martini drinking with my best friend. We played table-trivia (and were horrible at it), and enjoyed some good food, good drinks, and great company...despite the crankiest and slowest waitress I've ever seen. (it shouldn't take 30 minutes for a glass of water... and we're still waiting on those straws). The fun didn't end when most places around town were closed due to the late hour- we have a 24 hour Walmart. Yes, you are never to old to cruise Walmart at the wee hours of the morning.

The next morning (well.. afternoon to the rest of the world) another friend took me out for a Bday breakfast that was also delicious! Both of us were beat, so we called it a day after- but we have a late birthday boardgame marathon coming. And I'm going to take her down! (I know you're reading this Hope- so bring it on!)

I still have yet to go birthday bowling with some of the family out here... so the celebrating is still going on. Or is on hold I guess. Anyway, as you can tell its been one heck of a celebration of my quarter of a century of life! WOOHOO!

-A cute apron (most I've seen don't really cover properly if you...um...okay, I'll say it- have big boobs. Sure I can cover one or the other, but I like to cover both...)

-Someone to fix my bike tire for me (the tire is wacky since I crashed)

-Dinner at the Melting Pot (Mmmm... cheesy fondue goodness)

-A new pair of my favorite jeans (and I quote "I love the way they hug my butt, my butt feels so cuddled!"

-A day at ITZ or Mr. Biggs (chuckee cheese just doesn't work, sorry)

-Some more Acrylic paints, I'm running low (esp. on black and white as usual)

One of Sarah's goal is life is to be like her dad. Without being a scary X-Marine of course!

He is an extremely educated man, having worked his way to earning a bunch of Masters Degrees (we're not sure the count, we'll have to ask later).

Sarah just added to her degree count herself, and that's one step closer to being like her dad, one small step for education, and of course the reason for this post.

Also Sarah is currently Student-Loan Free...take THAT economy!

Dear Santa,

It's been a tough year for everyone down here, and we're willing to bet the North Pole has also been hit hard by the current economy. More elves than their are jobs for, cost of cookies going up? But at least you feed can feed your reindeer to get around, our cars guzzel up overpriced gasoline! We're not asking for much this Christmas, but just incase you got all those memos from people saying how good we've both been heres some of the things we could use this season.

Vincent:

A Toaster. Yes, we've been married for two years and we still don't have one of these. We've been microwaving our poptarts and toaster strudels.

Socks. Plain, White, stink-free (he can add that feature on his own!), and big because Vincent is secretly Big Foot in disguise.

Sarah:

Slipper Socks. Our floors are both slippery and cold. Solve both problems in one easy step!

Storage racks for food storage in the garage. With all this super-couponing we do we're running out of space in our small kitchen cupboards.

Olie and Frank:
"Please donate to the Humane Society. We have everything we need from a full sized bed the humans keep insisting is theirs but we know better, endless snuggles and attention, and lots of treats. Other dogs aren't as lucky."

Penny: "I want attention. All your attention. And I want it NOW!"

Eric and Erin (Sarah's brother-in-law and sister) just added a new member to our family! And yes I'm talking about a puppy- in our family dogs count just as much as people, especially when no one has kids. (Dogs are the new kids ya know!)

The camcorders arrived via FedEx this morning.-two tiny and cute flip ultra something video things. One is ours to keep and one is to record the events of Black Friday for Bestbuys PR usage and such. Oh and the giftcard came- that glorious $1,000 Best Buy gift card! I called the phone number to check the balance and really enjoyed hearing the monotone recorded voice say "one-THOUSAND-dollars" (insert Dr. Evil's voice for dramatic effect!)

Tomorrow night we leave for our hotel in Denver. Then we're getting picked up by our super duper limo at 3:15 AM ~ Yeah baby! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

To some Valentines Day is the holiday for love- but for me and my husband Black Friday is what brings out the sweethearts in us! Our first date was spent waiting in line outside Best Buy during Black Friday 2003. Six years later we're still acting like the love-struck college students by making Black Friday at Best Buy an annual tradition and date.
We wake up extremely early every Black Friday energized with thoughts of half-off sugar plums dancing in our heads. To make the day special we start off with my homemade pumpkin waffles and hot cocoa, the breakfast of deal-chasing champions. We revisit that first Black Friday date by wearing the same winter coats and matching scarves we did six years ago, now faded with time, but still protecting us from the cold. Cuddled together, we patiently wait outside in the blistering cold for stores to open. We always ask another Black Friday fan to capture the moment with our camera adding to the yearly pictures we have collected from Black Friday that decorated our mantel throughout the year.
While some women may prefer their husbands in tight tank tops running on a beach, nothing says “hubba hubba” like my husband in his clunky snow boots weaving his way through a crowd, trying to reach for that must-have gadget of the season. Black Friday is the day we celebrate our tradition, our love, and hopefully finally grabbing the last Nintendo Wii off the shelf!

So the weather outside isn't frightful, and there is no snow here to be delightful... but its time for a Christmas-y themed blog anyway. we're ready for the season, aren't all of you? With all the talk of a poor economy, the war, the election and all its trash talk- we're ready for some peaceful times coming up.

This year we will be enjoying the season with the people we love the most- each other! from Dec 23rd - Jan 1 we won't be reachable. We're taking the phone off the hook, cutting the wires to the doorbell, and letting ourselves be snowed in (literally hopefully!).

Almost 1/2 through November!

We looked at the calendar this morning and saw that we are really far into November. Yes, you read that correctly- we said November! It will soon be Thanksgiving, and black Friday, and then the end of Sarah's fall semester and teacher aiding for the year- not to mention that one big December holiday!

Our Halloween decorations got taken down this weekend, they were only inside the house so we're not one of those neighbors. We are, however playing Christmas music in the house already. That is one of the joys of being independent adults- we can listen to whatever silly music we want anytime we want and no one can complain because *we* pay the utilities. Of course, the paying the utilities is not a fun part of being an adult.

I wonder when we'll get the Christmas decorations up? It won't be this weekend but we will most likely start before Thanksgiving if we get the chance.
